History
The Tytherleigh Arms, Tytherleigh was also formerly known as The Kings Arms, and is a 16th Century Coaching Inn.

The above manuscript reads:
Death of Miss E. L. Tytherleigh
The death occured on February 3, 1929, at the age of 80 years of Miss Elizabeth Large Tytherliegh, postmistress of Kempsford. She was a native of the village, and had been postmistress for 51 years.
Miss Tytherleigh had in her possession interesting letters concerning the old__ estate at Tytherleigh, in the parish of Chardstock, Devon, where the Tytherleigh descent can be traced back to 1230, when Rauff de Tytherleigh was living. Tytherleighs were lords of the manor of Chardstock, down to 1729, when the estate was sold out of the family. Tytherleigh House still stands and the Tytherleigh arms are to be seen on the fine old gateway at Tytherleigh. The old inn called the "Tytherleigh Arms" is also in existence. There is also the Tytherleigh aisle in Chardstock Church. The arms of Tytherleigh are-
-ermine, two surgeons fleams (or two glaziers crippling irons) in saltire gules. The crest is a passant ermine. The motto is "Deo adjuvair non timendum" - "God assisting, nothing is to be feared".
Miss Tytherleigh's father, James, came from Yeovil to Purton Stoke when a child, his mother, Elizabeth Large, returning there with her family on the death of her husband, a descendant of the old Tytherleigh family. James Tytherleigh afterwards started business at Kempsford and became postmaster, and on his death, Miss Tytherleigh became postmistress 51 years ago.
The funeral took place at the parish church in February 6, 1929. The mourners included Mr. Herbert Tytherleigh, of Thornton Heath.
